Learn to Ride/Learn to Race Program
For 2023, Mountainview Cycling Club and AWI Cycling are teaming up to provide more programs for new riders and those who are looking to improve their skills. On Monday nights, Mountainview will have a Learn to Ride program, while AWI will have a season-long Skills for All program along with their Learn to Race and Train to Race programs. Participants may hold a membership to both clubs if they wish to represent their home club, while participating in the coaching provided by the other (For example, a Midland local may sign up for the MCC, represent the MCC at races, and participate in other MCC events, but participate in the AWI Learn to race program by paying their club fee).
The learn to ride program (youth) is intended for riders aged 8-13 who already know how to ride their bikes in the general sense (e.g. can ride around their neighbourhood, know how to pedal, coast, brake, get on and off their bike comfortably), and who are looking to learn the skills of mountain biking on singletrack trails. Participants must have a mountain bike in good working order, and a properly fitting helmet.
The Learn to Race and Train to Race programs are intended for more advanced/experienced riders looking to further their skills, work on their race craft, and explore more focused training. These programs are provided by AWI Cycling.
The Mountainview Cycling Club Learn to Ride program is planned to run for 6 weeks. Any missed days due to weather will be made up at the end of the originally scheduled dates. The program will run from 5:45-6:45pm. If the club can secure sufficient volunteers, there will be rides available for the Learn to Ride group into the summer, but specific instruction won’t be provided at those rides.
